SUMMARY:Direct Sowing\, Transplanting\, and Hardening Off Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The Master Gardeners of Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties are presenting Direct Sowing\, Transplanting and Hardening Off Workshop. Join us Sunday\, April 16th from 1:00 – 3:00 PM in the Borden Seabert Exhibition Building (also known as The Dog Barn)\, located behind the Pavilion at the Grays Harbor Fairgrounds in Elma. This workshop will include hands-on activities. \nIn this workshop attendees will learn which crop seeds are best direct sown and when; and which crops do better if they are allowed to germinate indoors. Those seedlings that are grown indoors eventually need to be transplanted and slowly allowed to adjust to the out of doors through a repetitive process called hardening off. Attendees will learn how to handle and transplant fragile seedlings. \nThanks to the information provided by recent workshop participants on their evaluations we have added more topics to the upcoming Transplanting & Hardening Off workshop. These added topics include:\nÔÇó	Crop succession\, for a longer season of production\nÔÇó	Intercropping to support higher rates pollination & plant health\nÔÇó	Flower seeds that can be sown now and do well in our climate\nÔÇó	Beneficial insects\nÔÇó	Container and other non-traditional ways go grow a garden\nAs with our prior workshops\, we will have presentations and activities that are suitable for all ages. \nWe will be transplanting\, using seedlings from the MASTER GARDENERS demo garden\, so everyone will have new plants to take home with them. PLEASE LEAVE YOUR MILK JUGS AT HOME \n \nWSU Extension programs and employment are available without discrimination. Evidence of noncompliance may be reported through your local WSU Extension office. \nCooperating agencies: Washington State University\, U.S. Department of Agriculture\, and Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties. \nReasonable accommodations will be made for persons with disabilities and special needs who contact Toni Gwin\, WSU Extension\, P.O. SUMMARY:Preparing the Vegetable Garden
DESCRIPTION:The WSU Master Gardeners of Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties are presenting a free gardening workshop with hands-on activities. In this workshop we will touch on how to identify a good site for a new vegetable garden. SUMMARY:Seed Saver Harvest Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Join the WSU Extension Master Gardeners of Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties at our Demonstration Garden at the Grays Harbor County Fairgrounds in Elma\, WA for an afternoon of fun selecting seeds\, potted\, and bare root plants\, while learning about dividing plants and harvesting potatoes. For the youth and those young at heart\, there are lots of fun educational activities planned\, so bring the family. Master Gardeners will be on hand to help you choose the right seeds and plants for your needs\, and will demonstrate how to divide your new plants as they grow and multiply. \n<\n\n\nThis is a free\, family event. While adults gather plant material for their yards\, youth can learn about seeds and the many ways to plant them at our youth activity station. Adults are welcome to join in fun\, too! \nMaster Gardeners will be available at all times to help visitors pick out the plant material that will work best for their yards and personal needs\, and can offer planting instructions.\nThere will be several demonstrations on plant division for popular landscaping plants. The newly divided plants will be available to take home.\nMost of our seeds are for annual flowers that we use to attract pollinators in our garden and are good re-seeders. A few of our seeds are perennials. If you want one or the other\, just ask.\nPotted and bare root plants range from annuals and biennials that readily re-seed\, to long-lived perennials. These plants are primarily from the Demonstration Garden\, with some from the yards of Master Gardeners. They grow well in our climate.\nDried plant material\, for use in dried flower arrangements (hydrangea blossoms and breadseed poppy seed pods) have been harvested and dried for this event. Grab a stem or two to take home and enjoy.\nA demonstration on harvesting Ozette potatoes will include the option to take home a tuber or two for you to grow yourself next year.\n\nDo bring a paper bag or box to carry home your plant material!
