The WSU Master Gardener Program
The Master Gardener program in Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties is a Washington State University Extension program that trains volunteers so that they can help gardeners learn more about the art and science of growing and caring for plants. The program also enables these trained volunteers to extend sustainable gardening information to their communities through educational outreach programs.

- Provide non-biased, science-based gardening information to the public.
- Diagnose plant problems and provide sustainable solutions to home gardeners.
- Design and present educational programs on a wide variety of home gardening topics such as Integrated Pest Management (IPM), yard waste management and composting, water quality protection, and gardening with children, youth, and adults.
- Provide a window to research and education at Washington State University.
- May belong to the Master Gardener Foundation of Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties, a non-profit organization staffed 100% by volunteers.
- Are trained by WSU Extension faculty and industry professionals.
- Receive 60 hours of instruction over a 10-12 week period.
- “Payback” the training time by volunteering at least an equivalent number of hours during the first year.
- Are part of the state-wide WSU Extension Master Gardener Volunteer program in all Washington counties
The Master Gardener Volunteer training is offered every other year in the even years. The next training will be offered in 2024.
Applications for the 2024 training will be available starting in October 2023. Applications must be received no later than November 30, 2023.
